Sept 2/91

Received a letter from a friend. Rudy Bock M.D. an
Ophthalmologist. He has a home in the foothills. Very
scenic. Has his own small lake.

He said: [We are finally getting a harvest from the pear
tree that you helped me plant l3 years ago.
Do not worry too much about the world. It will muddle
through as before.

The Bocks are people who over the years have loved the land.
Rudy has healed the sick and sewn the seeds of wisdom in
places near and far.

Since receiving his letter I have been thinking of Artaxerxes
II King of Persia 4O4?-359? a,c. He was considered very wise
and was quoted for centuries.

One of his quotations has been deeply imprinted in my mind
for 3O years.

"Without an army, there is no power. Without money, there
is no army. Without agriculture, there is no money. Without
justice, there is no agriculture.".
