Dear John & Katy:

Thank you for your note. I will send you a
revised version of the George Bush letter.

His final speech was magnificent and his first News
conference was an inspiring example of how a president
should act

He demonstrated one of my most treasured quotations.
"He conquers twice, who restrains himself in victory."
I found it in the back of a book on Bacon's Essays.
I do not know if it an original of Bacons or one of his
favorite quotations. Bush was humble about his victory but
obviously in charge.

In the six day war between Israel & Egypt, it was a time for
the victors to use restraint. However the news media, at
least in this country did not spread oil on the troubled
waters.

With the Boer War in South Africa. When the British found
out more about the war, they were sorry about the whole thing
an asked Jan Smuts. the losing Boer general to be the Prime
Minister of South Africa. He was a wonderful man.

I hope that you treasure this ancient quotation and tell it
to your grandchildren.

I look forward to seeing you. Please telephone first.
In the meantime take care of each other. Eat the best food
that you can find and try to fill your long- term memories
with treasures.

The qualities that I have mentioned are ones that are found
in aristocrats. You and John fit in there.

 Love.
