Dear Dr. Walker:

I have talked to Dr. Flocks. He agreed that
there was no emergency and that the best thing to do was to
get the new glasses and then see how you got along.
After you have tried out the new glasses for awhile you can
then decide when to have eye surgery.

The conservative approach would be to postpone surgery until
you had trouble driving or doing your work. You could
decide at anytime to have surgery when the lens opacities in
the right eye were interfering with your ability to do your
work or drive a car.

In your work, you deal with disturbed patients. At home you
do things like splitting wood. While your right lens is in
place it is better able to withstand a mild blow to the eye.

However, do not hesitate to have a cataract extraction when
you feel it will benefit you. As Dr. Flocks says, Cataract
surgery can be the most beneficial operation in medicine.
The improvements in the operation have been quite a miracle.

Your eye condition is not an emergency. When you have given
your new glasses a good try and thought it over, you can see
Dr. Flocks and take whatever action appears the most
sensible.

Please don't be grim about it. You are actually doing very
well and should expect to work for some years yet and
eventually enjoy a retirement.

Wishing you good food, good reading and pleasant
relationships with those you work with and with your
neighbors.

 sincerely.
