POLITICS

The speakers that I heard during the Democratic convention
appeared to have  common themes

1. The President should stay home more and spend less time on
foreign affairs.

2. The Gulf war is over.  Let's forget it.

3. The American people want JOBS  JOBS  Jobs.

4. That the American workers be trained for high Tech jobs
at big pay. This will enable them to lead the good life
and at the same time compete with workers all over the
world.

5. They want the economy stimulated.

However, the picnic may be over.  A new way of life has been
created by us.  We may be on a downward track that will
continue.  Young Americans have been  encouraged to scorn
menial work.  This has created a vacuum.   Millions of
refugees have poured into the country, many illegally.  They
do cheap labor to begin with.

Sir Francis Bacon in one of his famous essays. stated that
the greatness of a nation depended on the character of its
people.  Have we lost our greatness?
