INDY 500

Sunny day here and at Indianapolis, Indiana.
200,000 people. Color, action, excited people.

I enjoyed the spectacle but is was disturbing. Such speed
and danger. So wasteful. The T.V. show the wreckage so
vividly. All over the world the violence is imprinted in
the minds of billions.

The big tires are impressive. Years ago they cost more than
$5OO. each. They wear out fast.

We have just fought a war and now appear mired in the hatreds
and violence of the Middle East. The oil riches are a
factor. Oil is not renewable. When it's gone it's gone.
A prospect grim to contemplate.

These are exciting times to be alive but we and the rest of
the world are collectively destroying the basis of the good
life. The renewable resources of farms, forests and waters
are not being sustained. There is widespread pollution.

It is possible that the People and the cultures they
developed are deteriorating. Too many unhealthy unhappy
people.

With present knowledge and facilities, health and happiness
should be much more common.

The cheerful thing is that almost all of world problems are
man-made and could be solved by men and women.
Possibly the world is going through a temporary madness.
However "Hope deferred maketh the Heart sick"

Comment: I am depressed that I did not get much fun from
Indy 500. or similar things. I do enjoy watching the Giants
and the Oakland As play baseball. and I eat good.

This article can be considered a waste of time and
energy but it made me feel better. When I sit down to my
computer, the time flies. I become totally absorbed.

The same with baseball but there I enjoy some shared glory.
I risk sadness when my teams lose but I like the players
and both managers. Roger Craig of the Giants and LaRussa
of the A's.

Baseball is a special game. Strict rules.. Does not depend
on violence or brute strength. One can see the players
faces. Many fine looking men with great skill. I only
watch the two teams and only when I have time
