Double jeopardy

Fear appears to be part of nature. It has some protective
value but too much of it can crush the spirit. Fear of
poverty may spur people on but could make them greedy.

Fear of ones neighbors is common in what are called violent
neighborhoods but since automobiles, our neighbors can be
anybody.

Years ago I heard of a man who brought up his two sons to be
fearless. They were both killed in careless accidents.
There must be a happy medium.

A common fear today, is what I call tribal loneliness.
At one time, everyone was born into some kind of tribe or
village. Presently we are just numbers in a computer.
The people that I meet seldom have much sense of community.
This is very unnatural. We are group mammals. We were
not designed to be grains of sand.

One reason teenagers join gangs is that they feel they belong
to something. Adults may join one of many warring factions.
This again is not natural to human nature.

So here is the DOUBLE JEOPARDY. Two kinds of fear.
