Dear Kathy:

I met your father in Safeway recently. He said
that you liked listening to the things that I talk about.
This pleases me. The politicians try to tell us that the
schools have a monopoly on learning. But schools are very
new in the world. Even now, most of what people learn is
from their parents and family and from the people that they
and their family mix with. And from television.{A mixed
blessing.}

As a child I learned much from older people and read a great
deal. I was an eager learner. Today the opportunities for
learning can be a great joy. However, many people I meet
appear to be dominated by television.
Often they have a weak knowledge of history or geography.

My nephew Tom and his wife have three daughters. He has been
director of the only eye hospital in Afghanistan. Over l00
beds. Libby, the mother, taught in the small school along
with other volunteers.

The three girls are bright and healthy. Molly, the oldest
is a pianist. She started learning when she found an old
piano that someone had thrown outside.

Nelica, the middle girl is age ll. And Katy age 7.
They now live in a suburb of Albany NY. Nelica is quite
strong. In her part of New York she is the champion runner
in the 800 meter race for her age group of l2 and under
She runs for fun. Little stress. Her father is a mountain
climber and all the family have climbed mountains

I will tell you more about Nelica when I see you tonight.

I look forward to seeing you and your family at dinner this
evening.

Sincerely
Robert H. Little
