Dear John:
Delighted to talk to you tonight. You might like
the article called MAD WORLD. Jesse will like my remarks
about Jose Canseco.
Aug 22/89 Another day. I was interrupted. My life is a
series of interruptions. There was a fine article in the
paper today. Inclosing clipping. It is about Jose Canseco.
I would like to know how he got that great body and nervous
system. Good ball players have what I call flash vision.
The baseball scouts call it SNAP vision. He must have had
a good combination of genes. A good family situation.
good food. Breast fed. People like him just don't happen.
There has to be a reason. He is likely what I call a
hybrid. A combination of genes and other factors
I wish the baseball announcers & writers would tell us more
about backgrounds. They should feel more humble when
talking about a great baseball player. The people in the
news business are often shallow people.
One time a retired Black veteran was sent to me. He lived in
Seaside, next to Fort Ord. A miserable climate.
He was 6'4" inches. A first baseman. The clubs like a
first baseman that is tall and quick. But tall men should
not be too quick. First basemen tend to break down more than
the average.
He was a fine looking man with good wits. I told him to
move to a warmer climate but don't leave home. Just wear
long underwear. That improves your personal climate. A few
months later he drove a fellow veteran to see me. He had
taken my advice. He loved the underwear. It made his whole
life better.
I am glad that Fort Ord was closed. Not a good climate for
anybody. Many recruits died there from illnesses related
to the climate and army life.
I gave a lot of useful advice to veterans. I was helpful to
many of them.. This gives me a good feeling. I volunteered
in World War two. They put me on hold. They missed a
good man.
It is very late. Was happy to hear about Emily, Sarah, &
Robbie.. Also Mary, Chester and Ron.
It is almost Midnight. Remember me to Gail, Cristina and
Jesse.
With love to all of you
Uncle Bob.
